1. 2nd Day: From Austria to Southern England
Our journey begins very early. We leave home and set off in a comfortable coach towards France. With sufficient breaks and a relaxed pace, we reach our first destination, the Reims area. Here we enjoy a cozy dinner and a well-deserved overnight stay.
The next morning, we continue our journey. Through the gentle landscapes of France, we drive to Calais and cross the English Channel by ferry from there. The famous white cliffs of Dover already offer a foretaste of the beauty of Southern England. In the afternoon, we explore the fashionable seaside resorts of Eastbourne and Brighton, known for their impressive coastlines, historic piers, and charming lanes. We spend the night in the Eastbourne/Portsmouth region.
3. 4th Day: The Isle of Wight and Devon – Enchanting Gardens and Wild Coasts
The third day takes you to the delightful Isle of Wight, a small paradise with a Mediterranean flair. Once the summer residence of Queen Victoria, the island is known for its lush vegetation, picturesque villages like Godshill and Shanklin, as well as dramatic cliffs. An excursion to this island will enchant you with its natural beauty. Back on the mainland, we spend the night in the Bournemouth area. On the fourth day, our route leads to Devon. Here we visit the magnificent Exeter Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, as well as the picturesque Torbay, which will delight you with its southern charm and similarity to the Mediterranean. The afternoon is dedicated to the idyllic Mt. Edgcumbe Gardens – filming location for many Rosamunde Pilcher movies (optional boat trip entrance fees, as the visit depends on filming schedules). Overnight stay in the Devon region.
5th 7th Day: Cornwall – A Garden of Eden on the Wild Atlantic Coast
Three unforgettable days in Cornwall, one of England’s most fascinating and beautiful regions, await you. Your comfortable hotel in the coastal town of Newquay provides the perfect base for a variety of excursions. Here you’ll experience all the magic of Cornwall: impressive cliffs, quaint fishing villages, romantic coves, and lush gardens as far as the eye can see. A special highlight is the visit to the world-famous Eden Project – a unique garden and ecology park that presents the plant world of all continents in spectacular domes.
Another day is dedicated to the mysterious King Arthur. You’ll visit Tintagel, the legendary castle of the mythical ruler, as well as the stately Lanhydrock House and Prideaux Place, one of the most famous filming locations for Rosamunde Pilcher movies. Romantics and nature lovers alike will be thrilled by this excursion. Additionally, you’ll enjoy a train ride on the scenic St. Ives Railway to the charming coastal town of St. Ives and experience the magnificent Trebah Garden, which is located right by the sea and impresses with its exotic plant life.
An additional optional excursion with more exciting details will follow before the start of the trip.
8. 9th Day: The Return Journey Begins – with a Final English Highlight
Our journey takes us from Cornwall through the counties of Somerset and Wiltshire. There we visit the impressive Wells Cathedral, the oldest Gothic cathedral in England, as well as the magnificent Longleat House estate with its picturesque gardens.
Before leaving England, we stop at the park of Leeds Castle, also known as the “most beautiful castle in the world,” and the UNESCO-protected Canterbury Cathedral. With numerous memories in our luggage, we cross the English Channel again by ferry and stay overnight in the Calais/Dunkirk area. With a bit of luck, interested visitors may catch a glimpse of the famous Stonehenge, which is over 3000 years old, along the way.
(Admission is not included, as it is occasionally closed for filming or gatherings of cult followers.)
10. Day 11: Journey home through Belgium and Luxembourg
On the penultimate day, we cross Belgium and Luxembourg on our way back to Austria. Thanks to the truck driving ban on weekends, we drive relaxed on the highways, interrupted by pleasant stops and a surprise along the way. In the evening, we enjoy a final dinner together and an overnight stay before reaching home the next day – filled with unforgettable impressions and wonderful experiences.
